Never bend your head. Always hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye.
Helen Keller
Today, June 27, Helen Keller would have been 140 years old! Despite becoming deaf and blind as a toddler due to an illness, she didn’t let her afflictions keep her from becoming the first deaf and blind person to ever achieve a Bachelor of Arts degree. During her lifetime she wrote twelve books and was political activist for people with disabilities like herself, among other causes she cared about.
This is a great quote about many things. It encompasses acceptance of who you are. It also speaks to integrity. Lastly, it talks about being confident despite what others may say or think about you.
Something that I have done the past few years after getting divorced is always taking phone calls from friends asking about what happened and questions they have about another story they heard from my ex.
I never shied away from any conversation and I was clear with everything that anyone asked me about what happened and what I feel went wrong. I am not a fan of talking behind people’s backs or spreading rumors and I feel like the way I live my life now embodies all that she advocates in this inspirational quote.
