freedom from fear #Poetry #Journey

i don’t want to live like this
the fear paralyzing
a ball and chain
keeping me inside
my own head
keeping a “safe” distance
from the outside
but this fear is a tyrant
controlling my nights and days
it resides over the calendar
it dictates my agenda
but i can’t live this way
anymore
i must get free
of fear’s prison
its hold on me must break
down from the pit
i rise up
throw down the shackles
and come into the light
the light exposes the lies
the binding power dissolves
i am free

I know, just a few days ago, I said I was going to write some new poetry, meditating on my favorites songs from United Pursuit’s Garden. I will! But I was humming this song all afternoon and I thought it was a “sign” to take a listen to it. As I listened to it a few times, this poem tumbled out. I hope you enjoy it! Inspiration for “freedom from fear” came from Twenty One Pilot’s song, “Redecorate” from their latest album, Scaled and Icy. The title of the album came from lyrics in “Redecorate.” Do you know which verse?
