red as blood
the wildflower thrives
with the monsoon rains
and then the scorching summer heat
fields and fields
of red poppies
rising up
in revolt against winter
life after death
a new season
a new crop
to serve in place of the fallen
the red poppies
a reminder of the past
crying out a remembrance
of the countless lives lost
