I like our little talks
A playful banter
of everything
and nothing
Feeling each other out
about our lives
similar
and different
Where we’ve been
What we’re doing
Hopes and dreams of then
and the mundane now
Each of us a captive audience
The questions keep flowing
Easy conversation
back and forth
the interest only growing
Captivated by the possibility
the spark is there
alas, once my time is up
leaving the office
feels like leaving behind
the key to a door
that will never be opened again

A beautifully written piece Jason. That ending leaves the feelings of ‘what if’ with the reader. Nicely done.

I know when I walked out the door after my final day of teaching, there wasn’t a feeling of “what if.” Rather, I sensed a feeling of mission accomplished.
