I can’t get over that smile
your entire face lights up
the contented joy radiates
from deep inside
you don’t need me
but you want me
these spring afternoons
wandering the path
I am lost
in the wonder of you
take my hand
and lead me on

What inspires your poetry? One of my favorite ways to get out of a slump is to go image searching on the Internet. I love to dig up an inspiring photograph to write about. There are some great websites out there that offer “free” images provided with a Creative Commons License that allows users to share, use and build upon the work that the creator began. Some of my favorites include: Unsplash, PxHere, Pexels, Pixabay, among others.
Over the next few weeks I will post some new poems such as the one above that started with an image as inspiration and then I told the “story” of what I saw in it through a poem. Imagery is a powerful tool in storytelling. Thankfully, there are many talented artists, photographers, and creative types that share their work online as an open source that spur others on to create their own unique masterpieces.
Search the tag, “Imagery” on my blog to find more poems and artwork inspired by imagery such as this one.
