Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s new novel, “Mexican Gothic” is a mysterious novel set in Mexico in the 1950s. There is something going on at High Place, where Noemí’s cousin, Catalina has been living with her new husband.
When Noemí gets a strange letter from her cousin, her father sends her to investigate. The story is one part mystery, one part horror as Noemí learns more and more of the goings on of High Place and its treacherous past.
To go with mystery and horror this book also includes some interesting science fiction and magical realism thrown in. It was an engaging read that I couldn’t put down. It was much different than a lot of the other things I’ve read of late, which was a good thing.
