a flower in the desert
scorching sun beats down
sand devoid of water and nutrients
and still
it blooms
it may remain for only a day
withers and dies
hours after rising up
from the desert floor
it is here
breaking through the surface
to see the light
of day
to experience only a single breath
of air
to reveal something
of itself
in this inhospitable place

We too are like flowers in the dessert, yet we still rise again to face another day.
Loving the poetic imagery this piece brings.
