The special candle that is only to be burned in the special days leading up to Christmas, namely the kalenderlys, the advent candle. This candle is marked by twenty-four lines, one for each day in December before Christmas, turning it into the slowest countdown clock in the world. -Meik Wiking, The Little Book of Hygge
What a fun way to mark the arrival of Christmas!
The Danes have a special candle with lines marking the days counting down to Christmas on their special “kalenderlys” (advent candles) candles. I want to try this with my family this season as a special way to light candles, create “hygge” coziness and remember and reflect on Christ’s birth this season.

Thanks for sharing more Danish traditions. The Advent season is a special time to share with your children.
I am planning to read one chapter from Luke from December 1-24. The 24 chapters will be a wonderful way to experience Christ’s life and ministry.

Thank you for sharing. I’ve never heard of an Advent candle. Advent study, which I enjoy, but never a candle. What a wonderful idea to begin the looking ahead to celebrate Christmas. Thank you for sharing Jason.
