The Advent Candle #Kalenderlys #Hygge

Advent Candle.jpg

The special candle that is only to be burned in the special days leading up to Christmas, namely the kalenderlys, the advent candle. This candle is marked by twenty-four lines, one for each day in December before Christmas, turning it into the slowest countdown clock in the world. -Meik Wiking, The Little Book of Hygge

What a fun way to mark the arrival of Christmas!

The Danes have a special candle with lines marking the days counting down to Christmas on their special “kalenderlys” (advent candles) candles. I want to try this with my family this season as a special way to light candles, create “hygge” coziness and remember and reflect on Christ’s birth this season.

  1. Thanks for sharing more Danish traditions. The Advent season is a special time to share with your children.

I am planning to read one chapter from Luke from December 1-24. The 24 chapters will be a wonderful way to experience Christ’s life and ministry.

  2. Thank you for sharing. I’ve never heard of an Advent candle. Advent study, which I enjoy, but never a candle. What a wonderful idea to begin the looking ahead to celebrate Christmas. Thank you for sharing Jason.
