Didn’t Australia just pass a whistle blower Bill – a law limiting freedom of the press? I know that police have raided journalists’ offices and homes, trawled phone network metadata, tried to access travel records and kept open the threat of prosecution for publishing leaked official documents. Even less chance of keeping the politicians honest.
Yes, but all paper tiger measures
in the face of a protest backlash.
We do have a rebellious streak in
Australia, that goes back to the
Eureka Stockade, that will not be
suppressed … for long.
