Single Ladies! Don’t have anything to do on Valentine’s Day? Then get some friends together and celebrate today, February 13, for Leslie Knope’s Galentine’s Day! Treat Yo Self!

It is pretty hilarious that this is actually a real thing now. Good for you ladies, enjoy!

As a soon-to-be single guy, I will not be doing anything special for either holiday, and I am perfectly fine with it. As far as I could tell after a quick Google search, there isn’t a male version of the Galentine’s Day holiday. This is probably because most guys aren’t really “brunch” people in my experience.

The way I plan to “celebrate” the faux-holiday will be to re-watch some of my favorite Parks and Rec episodes by myself with little to no responsibilities to speak of. Being single again does have its perks.

Galentine’s Day was “created” by Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler), in the 16th episode of Season 2 of Parks and Recreation. The episode aired on February 11, 2010. Leslie throws her single friends an annual “Galentine’s Day” party at a local restaurant where they indulge in brunch, wine and cake, among other things. It is in reaction to Leslie’s best friend, Ann (played by Rashida Jones) begins a new relationship leaving Leslie alone. Leslie’s goal in organizing the get-together is to find Ann’s replacement.

The unofficial holiday has now taken off and has its own page on Wikipedia:

“Galentine’s Day” has transcended the television screen and become established in everyday culture. On February 13, Galentine’s Day, a nonofficial holiday, is celebrated as a day for “ladies celebrating ladies.”

Below is a Galentine card for all the single ladies to enjoy:

Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza and Rashida Jones celebrated Galentine’s Day in real life too.
