This song is by a friend of mine, who is the Worship Pastor at my church. On Friday she put out her first EP, available to stream on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music and other sites. I will be sharing a few of my favorite songs, but this song, “Delight (So Close)” is my absolute favorite!
The theme of the song is about our relationship with God. It is like the relationship with a brother, but it is deeper. It is like the relationship with a best friend or your sweetest love. When you go deep in your relationship with God, that relationship becomes central and all of your other relationships are a product of that one, most important relationship. If you can get that right, you have a chance of having good relationships with family members, children, your spouse. The reason is because God is meant to provide all of our needs. When He is meeting our needs, we don’t have to try to put that on others. We are full to be able to freely give to those around us, those we care about most, and strangers, or acquaintances. We don’t have withhold anything for ourselves, we can just give out to the people around us.
The chorus is my favorite part. It is a reciprocal relationship that delights in one another. God fills us up. God provides for our needs, and then we delight in Him. God sees us as His most special child. God sees us as His favorite. Each one of us. And all we want to do is to be with Him. He wants us to be with Him all the time, whatever we are doing, wherever we are, we can go with Him, and we can be with Him.
The first time I heard this song, I think I listened to it for about half an hour on repeat… at least six times in a row 🙂
