It’s been eight years
Since that night
When everything changed
It was the last straw 
Even if we tried to hide it
An act of resentment
An act of violence
That you couldn’t take back
The straw that broke 
The camel’s back
Split our family in two
I take responsibility
For my part
But I can’t bear yours
There was sorrow
And mourning
Pain
But the new life 
I’ve found after
Led me to healing
To freedom
To restoration
In forgiveness
For you 
And for myself
