the rounded pebbles
poke at my feet
hard rock with softened edges
turned over and over
in nature’s tumbler
shaping millennia
from molten rock
miles below the earth’s surface
to specks of sand
traveling the globe
the mosaic jabbing
at my feet
a product of creation’s birth
