“Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt

Wow! This was such a good book!

“Remarkably Bright Creatures” is the debut novel of Shelby Van Pelt about grief and loss and finding someone in the most unexpected place. It also includes an arrogant, monologuing giant Pacific octopus, ruminating about his imprisonment in an aquarium in fictional town of Soul Bay, Washington.

This book includes some mystery and twists and turns in the life of a 30-year-old still trying to find his way. When he comes to Soul Bay he finds a community where his mother grew up and he begins to unravel secrets of her long, forgotten past.

His journey of discovery is a touching, heartbreaking and ultimately, redemptive one.

I loved this book and definitely recommend it to all lovers of literary fiction.
