I just read Philip Rucker and Carol Leonnig’s newest nonfiction book, “A Very Stable Genius,” and I found myself constantly laughing out loud about how the way that President Trump has acted time and time again. Even the way that his aides “handle” him and coach others that come to see him about official matters.

After a few moments of thinking “WTF?!” while reading, my amusement turned into dismay and then horror.

How could the American public have elected someone so aloof, so self-centered, and so lacking in any shred of self-awareness.

It is very scary to think about how our country has made it more than three years with someone utterly out-of-touch with reality, his role as the president, and  has not gotten us into a world war with another world power by the way he has acted the past few years.

I am also not a pollster, so I don’t know what they are predicting as of now in who might when the election at the end of this year. It appears likely that Joe Biden will be the candidate for the Democratic party to face-off with Trump in November.

I’ve never voted for a Democrat for President, but Biden seems like he is composed, of a sound mind, politically aware as well as socially aware of the requirements of the office as President, and possessing many qualities, which Donald Trump completely lacks. Solely based on his personal temperament and sense of cool under pressure, Biden seems to be a far superior choice for the office.

The book’s approach is not slanted in one political viewpoint or another. It takes an investigative journalism approach to “reporting” sometimes firsthand and other times reports and accounts of Trump’s presidency three years in. I understand that journalism is not free of political bias, however, the portrait that Leonnig and Rucker craft for readers is telling and seems to be trustworthy. The various “snippets” and tweets from Trump himself seem to further strengthen their own case in the book. Even the book’s title, somewhat ridiculous, is from statements that Trump made about himself when people questioned his mental fitness for the job of president.

Another glaringly obvious point the book makes without even stating it outright are the “yes men” around Trump, the Republican party, and the millions of Americans that completely ignore the issues surrounding him. He acts like a toddler. He only wants people to agree with everything he says or wants, and when someone tells him “No” he erupts in anger. He throws a childish temper tantrum and gets away with it.

No one holds him accountable. He knows, too, that no one will hold him accountable. What’s most unfortunate, however, is that the only people who could potentially rein him in, people in the Republican party, are completely unwilling or just desire not to do it.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s personal lawyer, also known as his “fixer” for decades called him, “racist, a con-man, and cheat.” He mentions in his legal deposition about hush money given to Stormy Daniels to cover-up an affair that Trump “speaks in code like a mob boss.”

It is deplorable. It is horrifying. It is completely ridiculous. Trump is depicted as constantly watching Fox News and other cable news shows all days to see how he is being perceived on the shows. He seems to act like he devises policy based on getting praise on these shows, not on anything with any long-term common sense in mind. He doesn’t value any of the current treaties that are protecting the interests of America and instead seems to favor dictators trying to send the US into upheaval such as Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un over allies such as Justin Trudeau and Angela Merkel.

I am sorry if I offend you. I am sorry if you’ve had your head stuck in the sand, ignoring every action the President has made the past three plus years and refuse to objectively reflect on his conduct. But Trump is one of the worst president in US history, maybe even worse than Andrew Johnson, who took over for Abraham Lincoln after his assassination, and was the first president to be impeached. Read the book and make your own decision about Trump’s childish behavior and constant self-promotion, putting the interests of himself and his company above the interests of the US people.

Washington Post national investigative reporter Carol Leonnig and White House bureau chief Philip Rucker, both Pulitzer Prize winners, provide the definitive insider narrative of Donald Trump’s unique presidency with shocking new reporting and insight into its implications.
