I know those searching eyes
they match my own
looking for a kindness
a tenderness returned
every pair of eyes
yours meet
is an opportunity
to find the old soul
yours are searching for

I love those last three lines, especially “the old soul / yours are searching for.” Some might hear that phrase and misinterpret the beauty and wealth of an old soul. It’s not about years or age, which some might see in a negative light, but depth and richness like Tom Bombadil, Treebeard, or Gandalf. (Couldn’t help but reference Tolkien!)
