I loved this book! When I finished the book, I literally said, “YES!!!” Robin Sloan’s “Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore” was a book lover and fantasy nerd’s dream come true. This was a beautifully written literary fiction novel about an ancient bookstore full of coded books with secret messages hidden in them.
There were lots of fun elements, relationships, struggling, recently graduated college kids just looking for a job, and secret societies. While many of the tropes utilized in the book “borrowed” from those that came before it are put together in such a way that feels both familiar and new. The novel feels like part “National Treasure” and part “Ready Player One.” There is a lot to enjoy for people of a certain appetite of literature, technology, and fantasy genres.
This was a fun ride that ties up the loose ends of a twisty, mysterious book that takes you on a fun adventure.
