A History of What Comes Next by Sylvain Neuvel #BookReview

“A History of What Comes Next” by Sylvain Neuvel

I really enjoyed “A History of What Comes Next” by Sylvain Neuvel. Reading reviews it seems like some people didn’t really like this book. I didn’t have any experience reading any of Neuvel’s previous works.

This is a part mythology, part science fiction thriller. There are these superhuman women and men “aliens” that have been fighting for generations. The book is a historical fiction of these superhumans interfering at the end of World War II to secure Werner Von Braun for the United States and then to spur the Soviet’s missile program into the “space race” with the U.S. for ulterior motives.

This book has a lot of murder, it covers some of the seedy underbelly of evil men in power and their cruel devices that they inflict on others. It was a very intriguing alternate history of the Cold War and the Space Race and the pitting of East versus West after the end of World War II.

The book is the first in a trilogy and I am excited to read the next “history” Neuvel explores in the second installment.
