I just finished Timothy Zahn’s second installment of his original Thrawn trilogy, “Dark Force Rising,” and I think it was even better than his first Thrawn book, “Heir to the Empire.” His second book continues to follow Leia Organa Solo, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian and the master tactician, Grand Admiral Thrawn through the galaxy in search of the Katana Fleet, aka The Dark Force, a lost fleet of Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers that have recently been discovered.
The race to get the location of the secret fleet is on between the New Republic and the Empire as the side who can secure these important ships could gain the upper hand in the galaxy for years to come. The sci-fi fantasy is a thrilling adventure with multiple overlapping story lines coinciding as Zahn moves between each story as the heroes and villains are all spread out throughout the entire galaxy in search of the fleet.
Zahn is a master Star Wars storyteller who delivers again in this epic novel. The audiobook filled with the classic Star Wars music from John Williams, droid warbles and beeps, and blaster fire sound effects completes the “reading” experience as you are transported into this new Star Wars story.
