“This is How You Lose the Time War,” coauthored by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone is unlike any other science fiction novel I have ever read before. It is a time-spanning novel where two opposing secret agents are battling through time and space to destroy one another and thwart the plans of the opposition to alter the past to affect the future.

The story starts with an encrypted letter meant for the other to find. It is a taunt and attack. The next letter is a boast. As the correspondence continues what started as a rivalry turns into mutual respect. And what happens next is unthinkable.

The story between Red and Blue alternates each chapter as the letter and the response of these warring rivals. The language employed by the authors is rich and descriptive. It was a very well-written story that engages the reader throughout. It was a very fast read as it just over 200 pages.
