Has food-borne pathogens like Salmonella or E. coli prevented you from eating a whole tub of cookie dough in the past?

Never fear! Toll House is now rolling out an “edible” cookie dough you can buy in stores and eat without the worry!

Nestle says its new “edible cookie dough,” comes in two flavors and was designed to be eaten straight from the tub. The two available flavors are chocolate chip and peanut butter chocolate chip monster, which is a combination of peanut butter, oats and candy-coated chocolate.

The cookie dough seems quite expensive at about $5.50 for a 15-ounce container, about twice the cost of a package of Nestle Toll House chocolate chip cookie dough that’s designed for baking.

I guess it’s better than a trip to the hospital.

Nestle made the product first available to Publix, where it’s already in stock, and will expand to Walmart in the Southeast and then to local grocery stores later in the summer.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has long urged consumers that eating uncooked dough can cause illness, with raw eggs tied to salmonella and raw flour connected to E. coli infections. But now that won’t be a concern anymore with this new product!
