I had a lovely afternoon with my kids today. We went to one of our favorite outdoor locales just outside of Denver in Golden, Colorado.

The Lookout Mountain Preserve and Nature Center has a children’s play area with stuffed animals, felt puzzles to build your own animals, animal skeletons like skull and other body parts, animal furs, etc. There are also some stuffed real-life animals such as a mountain lion, racoon, chipmunk, owl, deer and other specimens. Also available for kids and adults to try out are binoculars to see if you can spot some birds or other animals in the preserve.

After spending at least 30 minutes in the Nature Center, we went on a short loop hike through the nearby forest. It was perfect for the kids, even the youngest hiked some. It was short enough too that when they were done “hiking” I could carry the youngest. It was a great experience where they could interact with rocks, see birds, and look at the beautiful wildflowers.

Overall, it was a successful outing with the kids.

Onward and upward!
