- Hyggekrog – a nook, a place to snuggle up with a blanket, a book and a warm cup of tea. This may be a bay window with a cushion and blanket with soft, natural lighting, a place a safety to overlook what may be going on outside.
- A Fireplace – a place to sit alone to resting and experiencing the ultimate feelings of coziness and warmth.
- Candles – a hallmark of all things hygge.
- Things Made Out of Wood
- Nature – the Danes don’t just love wood things, but there is a need to bring the forest inside: leaves, nuts, twigs, animal skins; these are all hygge. The basic thing to think about is: If I were a viking, how would I furnish this room?
- Books – taking a break to read a big, thick book is a key concept of hygge. The genre does not matter.
- Ceramics – a nice teapot, a ceramic vase, your favorite coffee mug are all hyggelige.
- Think Tactile – hyggelig interior is not just about how things look, but they are also about how things feel.
- Vintage – an antique lamp, table or chair are all considered hyggeligt. The history of these items make them more interesting and hyggelig. Pieces passed from generation to generation often include emotional value and a story.
- Blankets and Cushions – these are essential to any hygge living space.
“Hygge is about giving your responsible, stressed-out achiever adult a break. Relax. Just for a little while. It is about experiencing happiness in simple pleasures and knowing that everything is going to be okay.” -Meik Wiking, The Little Book of Hygge

I have a lot of the 10 but had no idea it was Hygge. But I have to say that my home is a relaxed atmosphere. I just put stuff in it that brings me peace.
