After all I had been reading about hygge the past few weeks, I was determined this weekend to get some family hygge time in. Dinner was over and we had some time before the first kid was ready to go to bed and I seized the moment.
Everyone got in their warm “Christmas” pajamas (the pjs we get the kids on Christmas Eve to wear for Christmas morning and all of winter), we chose an age appropriate movie that everyone wanted to watch, popped popcorn, lowered the lights, lit the fireplace, got out the warm, fuzzy blankets and started cuddling.
The evening had all the best elements of hygge: the popcorn shared between the four us in one bowl, the warm blankets, the low lighting, the fireplace, and even the gentle snowing outside.
Hygge is about feeling warm inside and safe together when outside is cold, dark, and unsafe. There was a wonderful time we all enjoyed together as we got close, warmed up, and enjoyed being present with one another. There is nothing like this experience. I would definitely encourage you to find some time and space to get together with your loved ones, close friends (hygge works best with 3-5 other people), and cozy up with a board game, an old movie, coffee and tea, some cake. Make lasting memories and strengthen those close relationships while you still can.

This sounds wonderful! Very similar to my Sunday mornings with my three girls. Thanks for sharing! I’m glad you guys got some quality time together.

Jason, thanks for sharing a wonderful time. I can think of such nights years ago when my daughters were growing up.
