Go and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. –Neil Gaiman
You cannot create anything without first trying. No one ever gets it perfect on the first try. The truth is you will fail… a lot. But don’t let it discourage you. Write that rough draft. Start editing. Work on it. Don’t despair. Keep at it until is finished. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Go do stuff. Make mistakes. It is more worthwhile to try something new and fail at it, then to stay at home, to never risk anything, and to avoid something you have deemed “impossible” for you.
I finished my first book, Poems for Warriors, and then self-published it to prove to myself that I could do it. I did it to speak to my fear and the voice inside that said, “you can’t do this,” and “you aren’t a writer.” Those were lies I was believing. I am a writer. I wrote a book. I plan to write many more books. They aren’t to get rich or become famous. They are for me and for any person who picks them up and is encouraged and uplifted by their words.
That book led to this blog. I started it to promote that book and what I found was a community of writers, of thinkers, of creative, beautiful people who encourage me, and fill me with hope through their words, and it has truly made a big difference in my life. No, I have never met any of your in “real” life but I feel like to some extent I know you, I hear your struggle in your words, and we connect around things that are real and deep and human.
You, amazing people, go out there, make mistakes, and do something extraordinary that changes the world!

It’s amazing how well timed words like these can give you that extra little push to back yourself sometimes. Especially for those of us a little prone to self-doubt. So, thank you.
