2019 Oscars Highlights, Results & Reaction #Oscars #AcademyAwards #Results

Green Book took home the top honor of the night winning Best Picture. As I have said here before, I enjoyed this film. It was a feel-good story about an amazingly talented African-American classical pianist and a blue-collar Italian-American from New York City, who travel to the Deep South for a series of concert performances. He encounters constant racism and prejudice during his tour and the two bond while maintaining their dignity despite all they face. It was undeniably an important film, but to me, it wasn’t the best film of the year.

Alfonso Cuarón’s acceptance speech for Best Director was my favorite part of the night. His statement “As artists, our job is to look where other don’t; this responsibility becomes much more important in times when we are being encouraged to look away.” His film Roma highlights the importance and the contribution of one of the 70 million domestic workers in the world without worker rights and their impact on our everyday lives.

Of the predictions I made, I got 15 of 24 correct. Not so good.
