Safe Distance #Poetry

I don’t want to be “friends”
Keeping my distance
I feel like I can breathe again
Being with you was oppressive
Free from your control
Your “illness” imprisoned me
I am only responsible for me now
I can handle that
Miles apart
Safe distance to heal

  1. “Being with you was oppressive” sums it up exactly when distance allows you to get a more objective perspective of the relationship. One of my favorite books is “Stand up for Your Life” by Cheryl Richardson. She talks about the importance of boundaries in a healthy relationship. She talks about self-honoring strategies to transform fear and self-doubt into power and how relationships should honor us and build us up rather than tear us down. We should not settle for less than the honor that we deserve.
