Primeval Shelter (Free Verse)

Cool shade from ancient giants above
Sights and sounds click and gurgle below
Beauty surrounds my every step
Noises of the untouched forest fill my ears
These pristine woodlands alive
Breathing in the offgas of this generation
Steward of our delicate atmosphere
This primeval shelter
Saturated with toxic fume
I ponder
How much more it can bear?

Wilderness… How does it make you feel? That was The Poet by Day‘s weekly writing prompt. Above are my feelings on it. The forest, the untamed world, is a treasure that we would do well to protect and preserve for future generations. It isn’t something just to enjoy, but rather, it is imperative to preserve for our own survival.
