“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination” -Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein’s birthday is today, March 14. Today, he would have been 140 years old. Born in Ulm, Germany in 1879.

He is greatest work was the development of the theory of relativity and is remembered most as the creator of “the world’s most famous equation” in physics: E = mc2.

Einstein was not just a brilliant physicist, but he also was a humanitarian and philosopher with numerous inspirational quotations throughout his lifetime. He published more than 300 scientific papers, and another 150 non-scientific works in his lifetime.

Despite his name being synonymous with “genius,” this quote alludes to the fact that genius is not about accumulating more knowledge of what is already known, but instead imagining and postulating on the unknown to make new discoveries.

  1. This is especially true in the information age when verifiable facts are at our finger tips (although so is a lot of misinformation). To thrive the workplace of future (indeed, the present) we need more than knowledge, as you rightly say, we need imagination, creativity, the ability to solve problems and create knowledge.
