“A culture’s language reflects how people experience their world and affects their actions in it.” Meik Wiking on the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis, from his book, The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living.
This is so important. How we talk, what we say and how we say it, it all matters. It affects how we perceive the world around us. It narrates our lives and the stories we are telling ourselves. Then that story is lived out in the actions we take.
We need to pay very careful attention to our words. Our words hold the power of life and death. Pay careful attention to all that comes from your mouth and it will prove very beneficial to you in your life.
Proverbs 18:21 (ESV) says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
On another note, I am loving Meik Wiking’s book on “hygge.” I will continue to share insights I am gleaning, including his, “Hygge Manifesto” in the coming days, weeks.
I wrote a poem about hygge entitled “Hygge” a little bit ago. You can read it here.
If you want to buy the book, it is available on Amazon here.
