Five Minutes Too Late #Poetry

Disconnected from the living room
a cacophony rises in the house.

Furiously stirring the meal
bubbling up in the house.

My attention has left them
as hunger strikes their empty stomachs

Twenty minutes past the usual time
for dinner then the usual bedtime.

Bangs and crashes transform
the house into a gym.

The rush of energy now
flashes into the kitchen.

Just another five minutes
is all it will take.

Yet those five minutes
are five minutes too late.
