This old house
Melding into the forest
Overtaken by vines
Overgrowth enveloped
Leaves, bushes, tree hide
Its past
This new house
Recently constructed, inhabited
Boisterous sounds of play
Toddler laughs
Tender cuddles by the fire
Meals enjoyed ‘round the table
This somber house
Sickness
Overtakes their child
Sudden, unexpected
Pain brims over in the hearts
Hopelessness abounds
This shifting house
Emotions running over
Yelling, blaming
Distance insulates the pain
Separation, divorce
Emptiness
This quiet house
Alone
Memories have faded
Joy and love evaporated
Years ago
Nothing left
This old house
Melding into the forest
Abandoned, deserted long ago
Hopes and dreams swallowed up
Leaves, bushes, trees hide
Its past
