Hamilton on Disney+ // Book by Ron Chernow #Hamilfilm #AlexanderHamilton

Alexander Hamilton Portrait

I am contemplating getting a month of Disney+ to see the acclaimed production of “Hamilton” that is now streaming on that service. You can buy a month of Disney+ for just $6.99. That’s less than a ticket to the movies!

The production is Broadway musical movie of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s reimagining of the founding father’s life. The “Hamilton” movie, featuring the original cast (Miranda in the title role), is a “live” recording of the musical captured via six cameras as it appeared on stage in New York.

The musical is inspired by Ron Chernow’s book, “Alexander Hamilton,” a New York Times Bestseller

Here’s a brief excerpt about the book from Amazon:

Chernow’s biography is not just a portrait of Hamilton, but the story of America’s birth seen through its most central figure. At a critical time to look back to our roots, Alexander Hamilton will remind readers of the purpose of our institutions and our heritage as Americans.

When the musical came into Denver last year (and the year before) I tried unsuccessfully to get tickets to the sold out show. I hope to read Chernow’s book before getting Disney+ to stream the musical.

Has anyone seen the musical yet?

Has anyone read the book?

Should I read the book and see the musical?

  1. I saw the musical on Disney+ it is really good! The music is so good and the acting is amzing. It got a 9.2 out of 10 on IMDB. I honestly saw it to see what the hype was all about and I wish I could have seen it live. Now, from your post I now know there is a book. So I’ll definitely be checking it out.

  2. Definitely makes us rethink about how we see history and our founding fathers. It is a masterpiece. From the composition, adaptation, wordplay, staging, and choreography. The film really captures the theater feel. But it is so worth seeing live as well!!!! And I have been planning to read the book. Ron Chernow is supposed to be a great historian.
